Zombieland 2 video explores the cast getting back in the zombie-killing game

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s been ten years since ZOMBIELAND left its mark on the zombie-comedy landscape, and as evidenced by the trailer for the sequel, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, the main cast members haven’t lost their zombie-killing skills. A new featurette for the movie takes you behind the scenes of the upcoming sequel and finds the cast — including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin — talking about what it was like to come back for more, with new cast members like Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch and Thomas Middleditch talking about joining the fun.

“I think we figured out what was working well in the first one and capitalized on it for this one,” says Eisenberg.

We then get a better glimpse at characters like Dawson’s Nevada, who gives Harrelson’s Tallahassee a run for his money; Deutch’s Madison, a person who’s very existence in a zombie wasteland is a miracle and; Middleditch’s Flagstaff, the actor joking he was told, “Didn’t know? You’re a poor man’s, Jesse Eisenberg.”

Overall promotion on the movie has been a little light considering it's the long-awaited sequel to a fondly remembered hit, especially one that's exactly one month away from release. But we should start to see more of the movie in the coming weeks as Sony has to start ramping up promotion, which should be no problem when they have a movie that looks as fun as this one. Comedy sequels don't often fare well, but something tells me the breezy fun and gleeful violence of the original will prove timeless with the sequel, so here's to hoping I'm right.

Here's the synopsis:

A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP is in theaters October 18.
