‘Zombieland’ writers will be penning ‘G.I. Joe 2’. Excited?

UPDATE: According to IESB, ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the JOE sequel. Now are you excited?

Whether you loved it or hated it, the sequel to G.I. JOE looks to be on it’s way.

Very reliable sources for Collider say that a screenwriter has been hired to pen the next script. When it came to asking for the name of that person, the source wouldn’t give it up. They also didn’t find out if Stephen Sommers would be returning, or if they would be getting someone new.

This is not much a surprise. Back in August, Paramount’s chairman, Rob Moore told the L.A. Times that a sequel would soon go into development. Nearly 6 months later, here we are. Right now, the project is in early development, but I’m sure if a script is decent we will see more soon enough.

It’s too early to really decide how the project will turn out. If the right script writer comes in along with a good director (Sommers or not), it might have a fighting chance. The fact is that people went to see the first movie. Those same people also said that while JOE wasn’t a classic, it was fun. So we shall see. What do you guys think?
