My Spy trailer finds Dave Bautista teaming with a pint-sized partner

Dave Bautista has teamed up with some of the galaxy’s biggest a-holes for some wickedly funny and strange adventures in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, but now he’s about to find out what happens hehe teams up with a *record a scratch* 9-year-old girl?? STX has unveiled the first trailer for the action comedy MY SPY, in which Bautista plays a CIA agent on thin ice who suddenly finds himself paired up with a young whippersnapper who makes him teach her how to be in the spy game. Shenanigans will abound by the plenty, and clearly, the main selling point is watching the hulking performer by rude to children.

The first footage for the movie premiered earlier this week at CinemaCon, followed by the release of the first poster. Our own Paul Shirey was on hand to watch the trailer at the Con, and he had his own thought, tweeting, “it looks like a young audience crowd pleaser with a high cringe level.” Now you can see what he meant.

Bautista has been making a name for himself in action flicks and interesting blockbusters like GUARDIANS, BLADE RUNNER 2049 and SPECTRE, and now he’s taking a step other action stars like Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and Jackie Chan have done before him by teaming up with a youngster for a family-friendly outing. The man is putting in the time to expand his portfolio, and though this a movie you can instantly tell if it’s for you or not, he’s certainly doing what needs to be done to segue into more standalone comedic ventures.

Directed by Peter Segal (GET SMART) and written by Erich and Jon Hoeber (RED, THE MEG), MY SPY also stars Ken Jeong, Kristen Schaal, Chloe Coleman and more and is in theaters sometime this year.
