Neill Blomkamp and Chris Evans face disaster with Greenland

Neill Blomkamp has made some awesome short films and had a couple false starts when it came to features since the release of his third movie CHAPPIE. His ALIENS sequel has been killed by Ridley Scott's insistence on making ALIEN prequels, and he recently cancelled plans to make a feature expansion of his short FIREBASE after an underwhelming crowdfunding campaign… But now it looks like he might have his fourth feature set up, for real this time.

Blomkamp is attached to direct a disaster thriller titled GREENLAND, with Captain America himself Chris Evans signed on to star in the film.

Anton and Riverstone Pictures are financing the project, which will tell the story of

one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.

It's not certain with just that short description to go on, but at this point it sounds like GREENLAND might have a different style than Blomkamp's approach to his previous features DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM, and CHAPPIE.

The film is being produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures. Sébastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier of Anton and Nik Bower and Deepak Nayar of Riverstone are executive producing. CAA Media Finance is representing the domestic rights for GREENLAND with Endeavor Content, while STXinternational handles international distribution. STX will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the Marche du Film.

GREENLAND was developed by Thunder Road, Riverstone, and Ingenious Media.

This project is pretty interesting, and I really like the idea of Blomkamp and Evans working together. I look forward to finding out just what sort of "cataclysmic natural disaster" the film will be dealing with.
