Night of the Living Dead remake: Vivica A. Fox takes over the Ben role

As genre fans are well aware, George A. Romero's 1968 classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (watch it HERE) became public domain as soon as it was released without a copyright notice anywhere on screen. For decades, all that meant was that the movie got a whole lot of unauthorized home video releases and TV airings. Nobody attempted to remake NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD until 1990, and then it was Romero himself spearheading the remake, which was directed by his frequent collaborator Tom Savini. (You can watch the '90 remake HERE.)

But in recent years the floodgates have opened, as filmmakers realized anyone can do anything they want with the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD property. Multiple remakes and spin-offs have been produced… and now there's another one in the works. Our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting have discovered that CineTel Films will be presenting a new version of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD to potential buyers at the American Film Market.

Christopher Ray will be directing the latest NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, with Vivica A. Fox taking on the "Ben" role that was played by Duane Jones and Tony Todd in the '68 and '90 films.

The synopsis for this one:

Amidst a worldwide event where the dead awake and roam the earth as zombies, a small group of human survivors struggle to stay alive and fight off the wandering zombies who are intent on eating them and turning them into the Walking Dead.

A low quality version of the project's promotional art has even made its way online and can be seen below.

CineTel plans to get NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD into production in 2021.
