Olivia Munn says The Predator is a standalone film & confirms practical FX

I think it’s safe to say that one of the most highly-anticipated horror flicks coming our way in the next two years is Shane Black’s reboot of THE PREDATOR. I know it damn-near tops my list of must-see movies and the fact that the film is using practical FX for The Predator and not CGI has me all in.

One of the other great things about the upcoming PREDATOR reboot is the cast, including Olivia Munn. Munn recently sat down with Yahoo to talk about some movie co-starring a Franco and the topic quickly switched to THE PREDATOR. Munn then shared some interesting new bits of info on the flick.

Oliva Munn on THE PREDATOR:

Well we just wrapped and it comes out next summer and I’m so excited. It’s really cool because it’s standalone. So we have the inspiration – and we’re in the world of Predator – so we have all the other movies that exist but we don’t need to acknowledge them. It’s a really cool movie because it feels very present day.

So no erasing the other films and starting from scratch then?

No, we’re not erasing. We’re just kicking it up another level.

Sounds good to me as I’m sure she’s overplaying the standalone nature of the film. I mean, we already know Jake Busey will be playing the son of his father Gary Busey’s character from PREDATOR 2. So one can assume Munn is just clever about hiding the secret connections this film will share with the others.

Moving on, Munn also shared the story of first seeing The Predator on-set:

It was bananas we all go into this room and it was really creepy because he’s just … he’s moved by this guy with a remote control and it’s just so visceral. And he’s breathing and everything moves and it’s really… it’s a trip.

Again, glad to hear they are sticking with the practical man-in-a-suit nature of the character and not CGI-ing him to death and back. But let us know what YOU think of Shane Black’s THE PREDATOR so far on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

THE PREDATOR is directed by Shane Black and co-written by Black and Fred Dekker. The film stars Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Edward James Olmos.

THE PREDATOR hits theaters nationwide August 3, 2018.
