Paltrow & Favreau set to return for Avengers: Infinity War

INFINITY WAR has assembled what is easily the most high-profile ensemble cast ever in the history of film. Every major star of the MCU will be present, with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pratt, to name a few. But not every cast member is a world-saving hero, and we now know two of the series’ longest-serving supporting players will be in the mix.

Thanks to an Instagram photo from RDJ, we can see that Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau will be reprising their roles as Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan in the upcoming blockbuster. What? Don't you believe me? See for yourself, Doubtful Debbie.

Another key bit of information is coyly hidden by RDJ (but clearly with the intent to hint) and is lingering right there on Downey's chest, underneath his fashionable scarf. That appears to be a bulkier, modern update of the arc reactor famously attached to Tony Stark’s chest and used to both keep him alive and power the Iron Man suit. He had the piece removed at the end of IRON MAN 3 but still uses individual ones to power his suits. What it’s doing back on his chest, I have no clue, but it’s an interesting discussion piece. Discuss!

Paltrow and Favreau also had roles in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (the latter more so than the former), and I’d say they’ve earned a spot in this mega movie, the purpose of which is to conclude the ten years of storytelling leading up to it. They’ve been there since the beginning in IRON MAN, and if the movie stands to wrap everything up then it would be weird if they weren’t around in some capacity. They’ll have to fight for screen time, though, so whatever they do here better count for something.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is set for May 4, 2018.
