Rebecca Ferguson in talks for The Snowman; also in the mix for Prometheus 2

There were several breakout stars to emerge this year, including Rebecca Ferguson of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION. Studios were scrambling to get her involved in a variety of films but she ultimately decided to star in THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN alongside Emily Blunt. Now Deadline has the scoop on her next potential project saying that Ferguson is in talks to star opposite Michael Fassbender in THE SNOWMAN for director Tomas Alfredson.

THE SNOWMAN centers on "a detective named Harry Hole who investigates the disappearance of a young boy's mother. All that is left of her is the pink scarf her son gave her for Christmas, which is now wrapped around a snowman that mysteriously appeared in the front yard. As he digs deeper into the case, he comes to realize he may be tracking Norway's first official serial killer." Deadline reports that while the deal hasn't been closed yet, both sides are anxious to get things wrapped up in time to confirm a January start date.

After THE SNOWMAN there are a variety of options open to Ferguson, including a role in Ridley Scott's ALIEN: PARADISE LOST. No concrete talks have occurred yet but Deadline says that "the latest draft was delivered to Scott and Fox execs recently and it is, by all accounts, very strong with a peach of a major female role." That new role will likely be one of the "new group of travelers" who meet up with Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender's head on their journey to the Engineer's planet.
