First Rings trailer is horrifying for all the wrong reasons

Sometimes, dead is better.

This saying is important to remember for people not only wishing to go messing around in a pet cemetery, but also for anyone trying to reboot something just for the hell of it. I know nostalgia has a huge influence nowadays, and that the 90’s and early 00’s were just the bee's knees, but that doesn’t mean everything from those times deserves a reboot or delayed sequel. Sometimes, dead is better.

Don’t believe me? Have a look at the trailer for the horror reboot/sequel, RINGS

See my point. THE RING is a modern horror classic that, though it had a far-fetched premise, was still a quiet, eerie, calculated flick. This new one looks like, well, the exact opposite. I know a trailer is just meant to give you an idea of what the final product will be, but the only idea I'm gathering from this is that the makers of this trailer were clearly high on bath salts and went, “All of it! Just throw all of it at them! As fast as you can! God, this is so awesome! Let’s go fight a mailman!” The trailer does less to scare me, and more to remind me of the era filled with terrible American remakes of Japenese horror movies that followed THE RING's success. The movie even appars to be fit with the hair-being-pulled-out-of-some-oriface scene and unexplained-black-goo scenes that were standard in those flicks too. Oh, the goo! The monstrous goo!

RINGS is set for October 28.
