Zendaya is Sarah Michelle Gellar’s choice for Buffy The Vampire Slayer if a reboot happens

Buffy The Vampire Slayer celebrated its 25th-anniversary last week so that means the cast has been talking about the show’s legacy and its possible future as a reboot. For star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy Summers for seven seasons, if a reboot were to ever happen, SMG wants Zendaya as the new Slayer.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was interviewed for the new book “Into Every Generation A Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts” and the actress said that she is in full support of a reboot because the mythology of the show allows a Slayer to be born into a new generation. When she was asked who that person should be for the role of Buffy, Gellar simply said, “I vote Zendaya.”

Gellar didn’t elaborate beyond that but given how hot Zendaya is at the moment, it’s no surprise that she would be on the tip of someone’s tongue for any project. Vivica Fox wanted her to play her grown-up daughter in a new Kill Bill film if that were to ever happen so it seems these ladies think Zendaya has some potential to kick some ass.

As a Buffy fan myself, I’m not sure I would want a reboot but I do agree that the mythology of the series does lend itself to a potential revival if that were to ever happen. As the title of the book suggests, every generation has a new Slayer, and a revival could expand on that by following a new girl as she navigates being the chosen one. A revival could allow for the legacy characters to appear in some capacity but it wouldn’t have to be bogged down by staying 100% true to the series that came before it. The Buffy name is a big identifier of the brand so that could be difficult to get around but there is some potential there to keep the universe going.

Who would YOU want to see in a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot with Zendaya?
