Seven-year-old gets the surprise of his life for his birthday: Saw 3D!

Look, I’m a demented man; anyone who knows me personally or reads my articles regularly knows that. That’s why I must bring light to this little news item: It made me laugh. (And maybe elicited a small piece of outrage against dumb parental units – so I’m not a complete douchebag.)

In Revere, Mass., a birthday party to the movies for a seven-year-old boy went the way of so many Jigsaw victims when, after a few minutes of gory horror, it became rather obvious to the boy, his friends and the supervising parents that they were not watching MEGAMIND… They were watching SAW 3D.

Yes, a theater that was meant to be showing the animated Dreamworks 3D comedy accidentally wound up showing the last chapter in Lionsgate’s bloody horror series… and it only apparently took the unfortunate innocents in the theater about ten minutes to realize this. (Hey, at least the 3D aspect was consistent!)

From WHDH: The children were told to cover their eyes in the scenes of murder and mutilation played for several minutes before the movie theater corrected the problem.

Theatre operators realized the mistake and the correct movie, “Megamind,” was put on, but parents said the damage was already done and their children are still shaken by it.

Sooooo the parents allowed their children to sit in the theater while SAW 3D’s nasty opening played out instead of ushering the horrified tykes out? It didn’t take the complaints of the folks to stop the bloodletting, it was left up to the theater employees to realize their blunder. Good looking out. You know that old saying, “If you don’t like what you see on the TV, turn it off”? A similar sentiment applies when you’re sitting in a theater waiting for the torture-porn to end and the Will Ferrell movie begin.

Laughably still, before the movie even started, the parents sensed something was amiss when all the trailers were for similarly violent and R-rated films. You’d think MEGAMIND would have some cartoon previews or something, right? Probably not a trailer for SCREAM 4 or DRIVE ANGRY… I just don’t know who comes off as bigger asses, the parents or the projectionists.

For their troubles (and future psychiatric bills), the families were given one free ticket each to the theater. Guess it’s a good thing SAW is finally dead.
