Silent Hills, from Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima, has been canceled

Last year we all got pretty excited at the prospect of Silent Hills, a new game in the franchise that was the brainchild of Guillermo del Toro and Metal Gear Solid designer Hideo Kojima, starring Norman Reedus. We saw a pretty badass playable teaser for the project, but then didn’t hear much else… until now, and the news isn’t good.

Silent Hills has been officially canceled. The new was first broke by del Toro himself over the weekend, and that was followed up by a confirmation by the game’s distributor, Konami. Below you’ll find an official statement from the latter:

Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

Definitely a bummer, but what can you do? At least it sounds like there’s hope for this project to be revived – just don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. Below you’ll see a video of del Toro making the announcement at an event in San Francisco.
