So who do they want to play John McClane’s son in the next Die Hard?

As we recently learned, Bruce Willis’ resilient but unlucky detective John McClane is going to team up with his boy for some villain-fighting in the dubiously titled A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD (“Hoka Hey, muthafuckah!”).

That son/sidekick role is going to be sizeable, judging by the names Fox is gunning for — the production is testing actors for the part soon, and the list reportedly includes Ben Foster, Paul Dano, Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) and Milo Ventimiglia (“Heroes”).

You probably know Dano best from THERE WILL BE BLOOD (and not KNIGHT AND DAY, let’s hope), but he’s recently worked with Willis on Rian Johnson’s upcoming time-travel film LOOPER. And Foster has been developing his own asskicking skills in movies like THE MECHANIC, but he also faced Willis as the home-invading antagonist in HOSTAGE.

The movie will be directed by John Moore (MAX PAYNE, BEHIND ENEMY LINES), and involves McClane traveling to Russia to bail his kid out of trouble, only to find himself in… yep, the wrong place at the wrong time. Story of his life, y’know. Bad guys will then be slaughtered in a (likely) PG-13 fashion.

McClane’s fifth coincidental adventure already has a release date of February 14, 2013.
