Sophie Turner confirms her return as Jean Grey for upcoming X-Men film

Just last night, as Sophie Turner was cruising the red carpet of the 2017 British Academy Film Awards, the Game of Thrones actor confirmed her involvement in a yet untitled and forthcoming X-Men film. Some publications are calling the project X-MEN: SUPERNOVA, but until we get a confirmation on that, let's focus on what we do know, shall we?

So, while looking incredible on the red carpet, Turner spoke with heyuguys.com saying, "We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of [Game of] Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8." Turner's involvement in the next X-Men film sequel comes as no suprise, especially when you consider that Turner's Jean Grey character is now the primary since X-MEN: APOCALYPSE performed a "soft reboot" of sorts on the franchise.

Now, because the details of the next X-Men-related film are real loose at the moment, I'm not going to go ahead and post an unofficial synopsis. What I can tell you is that Simon Kinsberg is expected to revisit the classic Marvel Comics stoyline "The Dark Phoenix Saga" when bringing the next chapter of mutant mayhem to the big screen.

Personally, I'd rather see any other story line than "The Dark Phoenix Saga" at this point. Not only have previous X-films eluded to and featured parts of that narrative in the past, but there are plenty of other (and more compelling) dramas worth exploring from the rich and deep fictional history of the Marvel universe. Let's get some "Broodkill" up on the big screen. Or, maybe start heading in the direction of Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force. Now that would be something worth getting really excited about – at least for this particular X-fan.

What do you all think? Does Sophie Turner's involvement in the next X-Men film make you more excited for what's to come? Are you down for yet another cinematic representation of Jean Grey's darkest timeline? Do the X-Men films maybe need to take a vacation for some much needed R & R? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

While there's no release date confirmed for this mysterious X-Men-related film project, you can bet your ass that LOGAN will be raging its way into theaters on March 3, 2017
