Spike Lee reaches Kickstarter goal; blows up on Bloomberg host

Director Spike Lee has reached his Kickstarter goal of #1.25 million as of today, attaining success in the footsteps of previous big-name Kickstarter folks VERONICA MARS and Zach Braff. Prior to reaching that goal, however, Lee was on the defensive from his critics, who felt that Lee shouldn’t be using Kickstarter as he’s an established filmmaker with access to more money than your average up-and-coming filmmaker. Lee, never one to shy away from expressing his true feelings, let loose on Bloomberg host Trish Regan while justifying his jaunt into the online crowd-funding world. I can see how he might feel slighted by her intro, but there’s something to be said about calmly explaining something and going on a full-blown defensive attack.

Check it out:

Of course, none of that really matters now, as Lee has secured funding (and then some) for his “Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint.” Lee took to Twitter and You Tube to share his success, effectively thanking Jesus (who probably pledged $50 for the MO’ BETTA BLUES one sheet) and everyone else who pledged. After the whole VERONICA MARS kickoff and the continued success of many celebrities (minus Melissa Joan Hart, of course) able to succeed at raising funds through Kickstarter, it’s apparent that this trend isn’t going away anytime soon. The upside is that folks have a choice, which is why I won’t be hanging a signed CROOKLYN poster on my wall anytime soon.

Spike Lee‘s OLDBOY hits theaters on November 27, 2013.
