Stuart Gordon has a hunger for adapting cannibal play Taste into a feature film

Last week came the delicious news that Stuart Gordon (RE-ANIMATOR, CASTLE FREAK) was bringing the disturbing true story of cannibal Armin Meiwes to the L.A. stage with TASTE, written by Benjamin Brand. Now Variety informs us that Gordon and his collaborators are planning a TASTE feature film, even before the play has gone live.

According to the site, a feature version of TASTE is being planned late next year after the first run of the play. Gordon plans on using the same cast for both play and film; he’s in the process of meeting with actors right now.

Taste is based on the true story of Armin Meiwes (pictured), aka the Rotenburg Cannibal, the German man who achieved international notoriety for killing and eating a voluntary victim whom he had found via the Internet.

“It’s rare that real horror is done onstage,” Gordon told Variety. “‘Re-Animator’ the musical is more comedic than scary. But ‘Taste’ may cause people to actually pass out or lose their lunch in the theater.”
