Super-sized R rated version of Anchorman 2 coming to theaters for one week

Do you want or need more Ron Burgundy in your life? Then I've got some great news for you. A super-sized R rated version of ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES will be hitting select theaters for one week only starting February 28th. The extended version will contain 763 new jokes, and although it's not clear what the runtime will be, the original was 1 hour and 59 minutes long, so we could be looking at an almost three hour long cut of Will Ferrell's movie.

In a statement director Adam McKay says the super-sized cut is for hardcore ANCHORMAN fans only, so if you don't think you can handle that much Ron Burgundy, you should probably avoid this new version.

“When my editor told me we had a whole different version of the movie that was more than two hours long with nearly 800 new jokes, I was shocked. But when Paramount said they were actually going to put it in theaters, I did an 1950's spit take.  If you're a hardcore Anchorman fan go see this. If you're not, stay very far away."

McKay had previously teased an alternate cut with 250 different jokes, and even though the director said he would love it if the cut had a midnight showing, I think most of us expected to see it on DVD, not in theaters. A trailer and a clip for the R rated version have also been released, which you can check out below.

Doesn't this kind of remind you of WAKE UP, RON BURGUNDY: THE LOST MOVIE? The film was created with unused footage from the first movie, and was released straight to DVD. Many ANCHORMAN fans didn't think it wasn't nearly as good as the original, but hopefully this extended version of ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES will be much better than the lost movie.
