Supergirl TV show plot details revealed as casting gets underway

The Supergirl TV show which recently landed at CBS is beginning to take shape. The high-profile DC Comics adaptation comes from the minds of Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti and No Ordinary Family alum Ali Adler; a new casting breakdown reveals what their vision of Supergirl will look like if we get to watch it beyond a pilot episode. TV Line reports there are two lead roles that they’re looking for: Kara Zor-El, aka Kara Danvers, and Alexandra "Alex" Danvers.

For the role of Kara, aka Supergirl, the part will go to a female aged 22 to 26 to play 24. They go on to describe the character:

As the series’ mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.

Alex, Kara’s “gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded” foster sister is described as:

Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super.

So there you have it, "super" challenges await Supergirl, go figure. We won’t hear whether the show will make it to series for a little while as the pilot is looking for a fall 2015-16 spot. Are you intrigued by the prospect of a Supergirl show? Are you having TV superhero fatigue yet?
