The Expendables: Sylvester Stallone confirms spinoff films this October

Sylvester Stallone is taking to his favorite promotional tool, Instagram, to confirm that a spinoff of The Expendables is set to begin shooting this October. The post also reveals the working title for the film.

The Instagram post includes a picture of someone’s arm tattoo of his Expendables character Barney Ross. In the caption, Stallone drops the news that he’s heading off to shoot a spinoff of The Expendables in October and he reveals that the working title is Christmas Story. You can check out the Instagram post below!

Christmas Story might sound like a weird title for an Expendables spinoff but it likely alludes to Jason Statham’s character Lee Christmas, who has appeared in all three of The Expendables so far. Stallone recently took to his Instagram to show off a ring he designed for The Expendables 4 and, earlier this year, Randy Couture alluded to the notion that a fourth installment would be shooting this fall. Is the spinoff and The Expandables 4 one and the same? We don’t have confirmation on that just yet but I’m sure Stallone will tease with some hints on his Instagram page very soon.

The first Expendables film was released back in 2010 and it pulled in an impressive $274.5 million at the global box office. The following installments of the franchise grossed a cumulative of $530 million during their worldwide run as well so it should come as no surprise that a fourth one is in the works. News of the fourth Expendables film goes all the way back to 2018 when Stallone struck a deal with Millennium Films to shoot the eponymous mercenary group’s next big-screen mission.
