Taron Egerton hopes to take on the mentor role in future Kingsman movies

Although KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE wasn't received quite as passionately as the first film was, it was still a box-office success which means that the franchise will continue for at least one more film. The next KINGSMAN film on the slate is KINGSMAN: THE GREAT WAR, a prequel which will explore the formation of the spy agency during the early 1900s, but afterwards, it's expected that we'll return to the present day for KINGSMAN 3. Director Matthew Vaughn has said that the third film will be "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship," but Taron Egerton has a few ideas for the future of the franchise beyond that film.

The actor spoke on The Empire Film Podcast recently and revealed that he'd love to return to the franchise ten or fifteen years down the road in order to take on the mentor role.

My dream for it would be that I would kind of hang up my suit for 10, 15 years and then come back and pass the mantle on. I think that would be fun. We'd have to take a step away from it for a while before we did that. For me that would be the perfect way to wrap up what has been a huge, huge part of my life, and something I will always be incredibly grateful to Matthew for, and will always be in his debt for. So you never know, watch this space. Either way, Kingsman's going to survive, with or without me.

It remains to be seen whether the KINGSMAN franchise will actually survive that long, but it's certainly a neat idea. As for the near-future, Taron Egerton said that he hopes that the third film will be received better than THE GOLDEN CIRCLE was, which he admits wasn't quite as good as the first. "I would like the third one to be better received than the second one was," Egerton said. "I felt we got a bit of an unfair kicking if I'm totally honest. I think in some respects it was [difficult] because I just gave everything to it, and then it was so quickly torn down, that I think I did feel a bit of a sting. I think in some respects it probably wasn't quite as well put-together a film as the first one, but it certainly wasn't a bad film. And when we got this real kicking- I think what I would like to happen is for us to do a third one and for it to feel like a worthy third instalment to what has been a great part of my life."

Before Taron Egerton returns to play Eggsy once again, the next installment of the KINGSMAN franchise is set for a November 9, 2019 release.
