Teaser: Will Smith takes on magical creatures in David Ayer’s Bright

We're not going to be seeing the fantasy action-thriller BRIGHT for quite a while, it won't be hitting Netflix's streaming service until December, but Netflix wants to make sure we're well aware of it – more than nine months out from the film's release, they have already put a teaser trailer online.

Written by Max Landis (CHRONICLE, VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN), BRIGHT is a SUICIDE SQUAD reunion for director David Ayer and star Will Smith. It's a buddy cop movie set in

an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time.  Ward, a human, and Jakoby, an orc, embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it.  Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

Smith plays the human cop, with Joel Edgerton as the orc Jakoby. They are joined in the cast by Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Olivieri, and Kenneth Choi.

It makes sense that Netflix is starting to promote BRIGHT already, because this film was a huge investment for them. They paid $3 million for Landis's script, the budget was $45 million, and when all is said and done they could end up having paid around $90 million total to get BRIGHT made and out into the world.

The teaser is really just a brief introduction to the concept, showing Smith's character on patrol on the streets of Los Angeles, then mixing in the fantasy elements. It also gives us 2017's second major use of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land".
