The 5 minute opening sequence of Ghost in the Shell is now online

In exactly one week, director Rupert Sanders' live action adaptation of the Japanese manga GHOST IN THE SHELL (which previously served as the basis for a very popular anime) will be playing out on theatre screens, but you can get a head start on watching the movie before then.

The latest release from the GHOST IN THE SHELL marketing department is a lengthy clip that allows you to watch the first 5 minutes (actually 4 minutes and 40 seconds) of the film a week before it reaches theatres. As it turns out, a lot of the imagery we've seen in the trailers and promos for GHOST IN THE SHELL has been lifted from this opening sequence.

Written by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler, and Ehren Kruger, GHOST IN THE SHELL stars Scarlett Johansson as

the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Johansson's co-stars include Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Lasarus Ratuere, Tawanda Manyimo, Yutaka Izumihara, Danusia Samal, Chin Han, Rila Fukushima, Michael Pitt, Michael Wincott, Juliette Binoche, and Kaori Momoi.

GHOST IN THE SHELL is scheduled to be released on March 31st. The opening sequence is right here, right now:
