Juan of the Dead’s Alejandro Brugues to direct Charles Abernathy for Netflix

Juan of the Dead (watch it HERE) director Alejandro Brugues has signed on to direct the horror film The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy for the Netflix streaming service. The Abernathy spec script, written by Chris LaMont and Joe Russo, sold to Netflix after it was featured on the BloodList in 2018.

The story centers on

billionaire Charles Abernathy who, on the eve of his 75th birthday, invites his four estranged children back home out of fear that tonight someone – or something – is coming to kill him. To ensure his family will help protect him from whatever’s coming, Abernathy puts each of their inheritances on the line – they’ll get nothing if he’s found dead by dawn.

Sounds interesting. I look forward to finding out what's coming after Charles Abernathy.

Paul Schiff, who previously worked with Netflix on the Brad Anderson / Sam Worthington thriller Fractured, will be producing The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy through his company Paul Schiff Productions. Dan Clarke is executive producing.

Since catching the attention of genre fans with Juan of the Dead, Brugues has directed segments of the anthology films ABCs of Death 2 and Nightmare Cinema, as well as episodes of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and 50 States of Fright. Last year, he directed the Pooka Lives! film for the Blumhouse / Hulu series Into the Dark.

LaMont and Russo previously collaborated on The Au Pair Nightmare and the Bruce Willis movie Hard Kill.
