The setting for Wonder Woman 2 has been teased by DC’s Geoff Johns

Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment's president and chief creative officer, has revealed a new tease for the upcoming WONDER WOMAN sequel. The clue into what we can expect from the upcoming Patty Jenkins-helmed follow-up starring Gal Gadot hails from John's own Facebook account where he posted the following image:

The tease reads "WW84" which lends credence to the film taking place in the year 1984, as previously reported. This setup will transport fans of the Warrior Princess back to The Cold War, a time in world history when, after World War II, powers in the Eastern and Western Bloc were engaged in conflict with one another. Furthermore, Diana's latest adventure will introduce fans to Barbara Ann Minerva, a British archaeologist who is transformed into the villain Cheetah by a high priest named Chuma. BRIDESMAIDS and GHOSTBUSTERS actor Kristen Wiig has signed on to star as the ferocious femme fatale with Pedro Pascal (GAME OF THRONES) also joining the project in a yet-to-be-revealed role. The script for the film is being written by Jenkins, Johns and Dave Callaham.

After a chorus of moans from the DC fanbase as well as doubt from the studio itself, WONDER WOMAN (2017) went on to earn $821 million in worldwide receipts, shattering expectations along with box office records. The film, which is often hailed as the best in DC's cinematic universe, starred Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Robin Wright.

Up next for DC is James Wan's AQUAMAN starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry; the hard-drinkin', ab-tastic version, of course. AQUAMAN will swim into theaters on December 21st, while the studio's other upcoming release, SHAZAM!, is scheduled to power its way into cinemas on April 5, 2019.
