The Witch’s Robert Eggers to write and direct Rasputin miniseries

Although it was previously reported that THE WITCH's Robert Eggers is planning on doing a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic NOSFERATU, his next feature film directorial effort will likely be a medieval knight epic titled THE KNIGHT. But according to Deadline, the filmmaker also has a small screen project in the works.

The site has learned that Eggers has been tapped by Media Rights Capital to write and direct a six to eight-episode miniseries about Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin. The miniseries will "cover Rasputin’s origins in Siberia to his rise to power and bloody death in St. Petersburg." Rasputin was a mystical faith healer who became an advisor to the Romanovs, and was famously poisoned and shot before being tossed into the Neva River in 1916 because of his influence over the royal family.
