This new poster for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark really hits the spot

Heh. Now that I've ruined your day by posting the above artwork from Stephen Gammell for Alvin Scwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book series, we can move onto the news. You're welcome for the nightmares, by the way.

Today the official Twitter account for the upcoming Guillermo del Toro-produced SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK film has announced that "This week will be scary," teasing that all week long we can expect some spooky treats from director André Øvredal's movie adaptation of the legendary children's horror anthology collection. In addition to the account's words of warning, a new poster for the film based on Scwartz's terrifying tale "The Red Spot" has also made its debut.

Like I was saying, the new print in based on a re-imagining of "The Red Spot", a story in which a spider lays its eggs inside the face of a young woman while she's fast asleep. By the end of Scwartz's terrifying tale, the spot bursts, giving birth to a seemingly endless amount of eight-legged horrors. It's perfect bedtime reading if you ask me. Hell, I read these books from front to back for years and I turned out just fine, right? RIGHT?!

Written by del Toro, alongside Daniel and Kevin Hageman, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK will star Zoe Colletti (ANNIE), Austin Abrams (GANGSTER SQUAD, PAPER TOWNS), Gabriel Rush (MOORISE KINGDOM, NO LETTING TO), Michael Garza (WAYWARD PINES, TIMELESS), Austin Zajur (KIDDING, FIST FIGHT), Dean Norris (TOTAL RECALL, UNDER THE DOME), Gil Bellows (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, ALLY MCBEAL) and Lorraine Toussaint (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, SELMA) and Natalie Ganzhorn (WET BUM, MAKE IT POP).

You can check out the new poster in-full below, and be sure to stay close as there's bound to be a lot more from SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK throughout the week.
