Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer finds our boys up against a new mutant threat

Can you kick it? The brand-spankin’ new trailer for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movie’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been released. This new continuity comes from “permanent teenager” Seth Rogen, who had announced that he intended to aim for the teenage aspect of our beloved heroes in a half-shell. It looks to be their youngest interpretation yet, as the foursome display a very child-like excitement and wonder while being down for some good ol’ adolescent mischief. It just so happens that they have ninja skills and can utilize them to foil some of the city’s criminal activities.

The official synopsis from Paramount and Nickelodeon reads,
After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

The voice cast includes Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Post Malone, Brady Noon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Maya Rudolph. Seth Rogen pens the screenplay with longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg, along with Jeff Rowe, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Jeff Rowe is also sitting in the director’s chair for this one with a co-director in Kyler Spears. Rogen produces the film alongside Goldberg and Jeff Weaver, and the executive producers of the film include Ramsay McBean and Josh Fagen.

In an interesting twist, some of the Turtles’ famous foes make an appearance to give the boys a hard time, including Bebop and Rocksteady, but their infamous rogue, Shredder, is nowhere to be found. But if history is any indication, the big baddie could possibly be saved for the sequel with a tease in this one. Instead, we have a mutant by the name of Superfly, voiced by Ice Cube, who has a chip on his shoulder and wants mutant supremacy in the world.

The mayhem begins on August 2.
