Trejo says Machete ready

I know it seems like we and everyone else has run this story a hundred times already, but when you’ve got an opportunity to hear it directly from Machete’s mouth, why not listen to the man?

Danny Trejo was badassin’ his way down the red carpet for the premiere of 1408 when he was asked by Access Hollywood about the rumored feature.

He says they’re just waiting for Robert Rodriguez to be available, and it’s looking to get ready as early as this year, and is definitely intended as a theatrical film.

He also encourages everybody to email the Weinsteins, and why not? Check out the full interview HERE.

In an interview with Rolling Stone a month or so back, Rodriguez revealed that he has been planning MACHETE since 1993, right after casting Trejo in DESPERADO.

“I had cast him in Desperado and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this guy should have his own series of Mexican exploitation movies like Charles Bronson or like Jean-Claude Van Damme.’ So I wrote him this idea of a federale from Mexico who gets hired to do hatchet jobs in the U.S.,” Rodriguez said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I had heard sometimes FBI or DEA have a really tough job that they don’t want to get their own agents killed on, they’ll hire an agent from Mexico to come do the job for $25,000. I thought, ‘That’s Machete. He would come and do a really dangerous job for a lot of money to him but for everyone else over here it’s peanuts.’ But I never got around to making it.”

Hate to say it, but I think we all would have preferred MACHETE to SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL. Actually, I don’t hate saying that at all.
