Universal hires Expendables writer to pen their Wolf Man remake

Universal's plan for their rebooted classic monsters universe is to bring all their classic monsters together in one massive franchise. So their most recent hire makes sense. They have brought on Dave Callaham to pen their upcoming reboot of THE WOLF MAN, the first draft of which was written by PRISONERS and FRIDAY THE 13TH scribe Aaron Guzikowski.

Callaham has experience bringing varied genre icons together, having penned the screenplay for the action star bonanza THE EXPENDABLES. He's also proven to have experience in the genre, having written DOOM, TELL-TALE, the story for 2014's GODZILLA, and the screenplay for the upcoming ZOMBIELAND 2.

THE WOLF MAN is kind of an ignored entry in the original Universal monsters series, so it'll be interesting to see how he can beef it up into the modern age. His EXPENDABLES experience would certainly seem to indicate that they're taking things in a much more action-oriented direction.

The first film in the official classic monsters universe is THE MUMMY, starring Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. It hits theaters on June 9, 2017.
