UPDATE: Alamo Drafthouse theaters will NOT show Team America

UPDATE: Chalk another one up the hacker-terrorists. Apparently, the TEAM AMERICA screening has been canceled by the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas/Fort Worth and The Plaza Atlanta Theater. See their official announcement here (which seems to blame Paramount for the cancellation). No word on whether or not you're still allowed to watch your DVD or Blu-Ray versions of the movie. Standby for permission. – PS

If you're keeping up to date on the fast and infuriating story regarding the release of THE INTERVIEW (Sony has now officially pulled the release) you should be happy to hear about one theater (so far) that is taking a stand and expressing itself in a fantastic way. The Alamo Drafthouse announced that, in its place of THE INTERVIEW, they'll screen Matt Parker and Trey Stone‘s TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE. In keeping with the consensus of being one of the coolest movie chains ever (love that no talking/texting policy), The Alamo Drafthouse has certainly made a point and hopefully more theaters follow them.

This won't be at every Alamo Theater unfortunately, as of right now, it's just one night, one show, at one theater. Sure it could be seen as a great way to capitalize on crappy situation, but I think most people would agree that probably wasn’t their first reason for doing this. Also, it's free! Announced on their Facebook page, Drafhouse confirmed that TEAM AMERICA will screen December 27 at 7 p.m. at the Dallas Fort-Worth location (get your tickets here).

It's not only a free screening, it will even be a sing-a-long! Their Facebook post went on to say:

For the record, our plan was to still show The Interview…unfortunately these decisions aren't always ours to make. But in light of these recent events, we only have one thing to say:

"AMERICA F*** YEAH!"

Join us for a special showing of the TEAM AMERICA QUOTE-ALONG Saturday, December 27 at 7:00p. This show is FREE, because you can't spell "FREEDOM" without "FREE."

If you haven't seen TEAM AMERICA, the irony and the possible shit eating grins on the faces of your friends right now might be lost on you. The 2004 movie created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park) is a hilarious R-rated musical puppet (or supermarionettes) comedy about an elite counter-terrorism organization that ends up in North Korea for some reason and take on Kim Jong-il (the father of the current dictator Kim Jong-Un). You can pretty much fill in the blanks from there; needless to say it’s not falattering to the former North Korean leader, or Matt Damon.

Here’s the Drafthouse’s awesome description of the film and event.

Sure, you can celebrate your independence the usual way: slow sipping a beer as you stand over a grill while people you have only mild contempt for wait inside for their free meal. OR you can join The Action Pack as we celebrate the GREATEST MOVIE MADE ABOUT AMERICAN PATRIOTISM EVER and celebrate its 10th anniversary!

The world is different in 2014 than it was in 2004. Kim Jong Il is gone. I don’t know if Michael Moore is still around or not. But a lot of the brilliance in TEAM AMERICA is timeless. Acting is still the greatest gift any human being can possess, and it’s the only way to save America from the terrorists. Puppet f***cking  is still awesome. And Matt Damon is still Matt Damon.

So celebrate your indendence this year with the Action Pack. We’ll have subtitles for all the songs and all of our favorite quotes, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to scream out “AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!” at the top of your lungs. And yeah, we will have American flags, red white and blue streamers, balloons, and more for everyone. And THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year, but if you want to let the terrorists win…well, that’s your prerogative.
