TOP GUN 2 was always going to be a hard sell. It's a property that's over twenty years old, and not one many people are clamouring for. I mean, sure, there were jets, it's the namesake of a sweet ride at Great America, and has a pretty memorable soundtrack ("DAAAANGER ZOOONE!!!"), but other than that it's mostly known for its (intentional or not) homoerotic chemistry between stars Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer.
Well, we now know Tom Cruise is confirmed for sure as the eponymous Maverick, but what about Iceman himself, Val Kilmer? Well, the actor recently went on Twitter with this tweet:
Now, after a bout with cancer, it's awesome to see Kilmer still out there ready to work. Hopefully they find a way to get Iceman back into the fray. In my opinion, it wouldn't be TOP GUN without him.
Even more exciting, besides promising "jets", "a soundtrack", and "motorcycles", it seems that Tom Cruise has also stated that there may even be more volleyball! And, really, that's what the films were really about, right?
Meanwhile, there's no set official release date yet, but TOP GUN: MAVERICK is expected to start shooting later next year. We'll keep you posted.
