For a movie that stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Zach Galifianakis and was directed by Todd Phillips (THE HANGOVER), I left the first DUE DATE trailer thinking it wasn’t equal to the sum of its parts. Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe it’s an R-rated movie being watered down for a trailer… All I knew was that I was slightly concerned.
But this new trailer gives me much more hope and was more of what I expected the first time around. Even as a straight man, Downey, Jr. is making me laugh (up to the aforementioned dog spitting and including “You have a reservation at Chili’s?”). I’ve heard from people who’ve seen an early cut that the film is hilarious and not at all what you see in the trailers so I’m really excited to see how it all plays out this November.
