Will Smith lets you know his thoughts on Independence Day: Resurgence

Through the construction of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE, one of the biggest questions the sci-fi sequel had to answer for fans of the original was whether or not Will Smith would be returning to reprise his role as Steven Hiller. After all, INDEPENDENCE DAY is one of those films that helped build Smith into a bonafide star, so would he be back?

As we now know, Smith opted out of participating, and, as a result, the series took steps to make sure that there is no way in hell he's ever coming back, even if he changed his mind one day down the line. But what does Smith himself think of how everything has shaken out – INDEPENDENCE DAY moving forward with more chapters, the fate of his belovec character, etc.? In an interview with Yahoo!, Smith commented on his feelings.

I was working on Suicide Squad during that time. [Independence Day director] Roland [Emmerich] and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool. I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I found out my character died.

Big Willie Style is in need of some Kleenex… Something appears to have gotten in his eye. I'm sure he won't be a snotty emotional wreck this summer though. He's got his own blockbuster – SUICIDE SQUAD – to worry about.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE lands in theaters on June 24, 2016.
