Woody Allen and Sofia Vergara join John Turturro’s indie comedy Fading Gigolo

Not since 2000’s PICKING UP THE PIECES has Woody Allen starred in a film that he didn’t direct. That’ll change soon as the famed actor-director will be joining the John Turturro-directed (ROMANCE & CIGARETTES) indie comedy FADING GIGOLO, along with spicy Latin dish Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”).

The film, which will also star Turturro, finds him and Allen playing “cash-strapped best friends who decide to go into the gigolo business together and subsequently attract the suspicion of the Hasidic Jewish community in which they live. Duo take on the pseudonyms Virgil and Bongo, with Allen pimping out Turturro’s character until he falls for a Jewish widow, who has not yet been cast.” Sharon Stone (LOVELACE) is also on board as “Allen’s dermatologist who hires Turturro to sleep with her.” Vergara, meanwhile, is expected to play a “wealthy client who’s bored with her marriage and wants to have a threesome with Turturro and Stone.” Well, obviously.

Allen, of course, is coming off a well-earned Oscar victory for his MIDNIGHT IN PARIS screenplay. Well, I don’t know if it’s well-earned, but it beat THE ARTIST and that’s good enough for me. His next film – in which he also stars – is NERO FIDDLED. That one’s due out on June 22nd.
