“Now who’s going to step up and direct WORLD WAR Z and turn it into the Oscar bait it should be? Peter Jackson? Sam Raimi? This demands a big name who can handle a big picture. This isn’t just a good adaptation of a difficult book… it’s a genre-defining piece of work that could well see us all arguing about whether or not a zombie movie qualifies as “Best Picture” material.”
Wow, alrighty then. Thems be some mighty strong words from a well-respected movie hound. My only question is, if the script is so great then why hasn’t anyone been attached to direct yet? My best guess is that it’s still in the opening stages. I bet we’ll start hearing director news pretty soon. I mean, there was a HUGE bidding war over this script between Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production companies (Plan B and Appian Way). Paramount eventually came out the winner with Pitt’s Plan B producing. So it MUST be awesome, right? What do you think? For now, chomp on the novel’s synopsis:
Ten years after the human victory over the world wide Zombie epidemic, referred to as World War Z, an anonymous editor scours the world collecting the stories and experiences of those who have survived the conflict that almost eradicated humanity.
Definitely sounds intriguing. No official release date is set yet, but I’ll be sure to keep you posted once more office news arises… from the grave.
