Bond title revealed! Jan. 24, 2008

UPDATE - Sony held the BOND 22 press conference earlier this morning, which announced the official title as QUANTUM OF SOLACE and below we have added the film's official synopsis as well as some pics of the cast from the vent.

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.

Sony Pictures is holding a press conference this afternoon for BOND 22 where, among other things, they're expected to officially announce the film's title. But Empire Magazine believes they've got the early scoop. They're reporting that the 22nd James Bond film is titled QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Huh? Doesn't have quite the same ring as CASINO ROYALE but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what it means. As Empire explains, it is the title of an Ian Fleming short story but one that doesn't necessarily lend itself to a big-budget action film (it involves a dinner party, dull guests and offensive remarks...sounds like a weekend at the Sampson house). I'm sure they'll adjust the plot to make the Quantum of Solace some kind of weapon or jewel or something that Bond must recover. Stay tuned to JoBlo.com later today for more from the Bond press conference with appearances by stars Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko, Mathie Amalric and director Marc Forster.

that this is a direct sequel. I loved CR and I thought I'd hate Danny Craig, but he proved himself more than equal to the task of playing Bond. This title is kinda cool in and of itself, and it's cool that it's an Ian Fleming title. I love some of the other titles but frankly, those fit the other films better as far as what those films were trying to accomplish. This seems to fit where the Bond films are going. I only wish it had a better director. I hated all of Forster's films so far so I hope he's able to step it up.

These first movies are about him becoming James Bond, and he still is not cold and calculating to the point of not caring on who made the woman he loved betray him. Making it a direct sequel totally makes sense and is the best idea.

Wow, that's just a terrible title. I love the synopsis...oh wait...no I don't as it's about a page long and really only skimmed through it. It might just be me...but aren't synopsis supposed to be like two sentences? I dunno, I don't know if I like the idea of it being such a direct sequel... I never really viewed the end of Casino Royal as much of a cliffhanger being that Bond tracked down the guy responsible for all the trouble... but now there's got to be a giant conspiracy behind every little thing that occured in Casino Royal... Ah well, the director rocks (which is kind of a first going into a bond flick), Daniel Craig rocks, should still be fun.

Its sound like a newagey film documentary. Whatever, I'll also most definitely be seeing it. Tho' Im not a fan of it being like a direct sequel where he's doing all of this for his love, I thought that was to build his persona but it looks like now he's all sentimental. I do enjoy the possibilities of finding out what this mysterious organization is.

I like the new title. And I also like the director. So, it's all good so far.

By the way, is Olga Kurylenko a good Bond girl or a bad Bond girl?

Sounds like a new razor coming out for schick.

The plot sounds great though and I think Forster is a top notch director. So I'm interested to see what he brings to the table.

Um ... "Quantum of Solace?" Doesn't exactly sound very Bond-like. Maybe if the film in question was "Flash Gordon and the Quantum of Solace," THAT might work, but for Bond? Gimme a freakin' break.

If thats the title, I personally don't mind but being that I work at a movie theater part-time, I will have hours and hours of fun listening to people trying to pronounce it.

You couldn't believe how many people can't pronounce movie titles right or how they make up their own titles.

Some examples:

The Matrix - "The Mattress" (Russians)

Mr. Bean - Mr. Beans

I Am Legend - "The movie with the black guy"

Saw IV - Saw I.V. (as in hospital equip)

Mr. Magorium's Magical Emporium - Mr. Majors House of Magic
