Cap America flick Jun. 14, 2007

It's been a long time coming, but finally we can confirm that Marvel Studios' next 'independently financed' project will be a new movie for CAPTAIN AMERICA. On the set of IRON MAN, Studio president Kevin Feige announced said that "We'll have to play with Captain America as being a patriotic propoganda machine on one hand but also being a very human Steve Rogers, ... [an] interesting, fascinating hero in his own right". David Self (ROAD TO PERDITION) is currently working on the script.

I'm all for this, I think Cap is a great character, even with the ra ra America stuff. When asked about whether the flick would be contemporary or set back in World War II, he said that "right now what we're developing would be about half and half". I'm not really sure how that would work, is he going to receive the Super-Soldier formula and then be cryogenically frozen? Whatever, so long as it makes sense to me I can deal with it. Hell, I gave DAREDEVIL the benefit of the doubt. Question now is, who'd we like to see play the guy?

Extra Tidbit: Captain America actually was - in at least one comic book found - frozen and preserved in a huge block of ice.

Outside of US, this movie hasn't got much chance. It would be better if Cap's origin is explained in upcoming AVENGERS movie.

Sounds great!
Anyone else think a Marvel Civil War film could be good? I suppose the budget for a CW film would be huge, but I think if the right people developed it, it could be amazing.

Bout friggin time. He, imho, is MARVEL's flagship character (sorry Spidey) and is viable for a big budget epic flick, in the vein of SUPERMAN RETURNS (that fucker cost pretty well over $200 mil to make). Eventhough I feel it's great to be patriotic, I hope they don't write him being too preachy about life and liberty. Right director and I'm in.

Captain America is my all time favorite superhero. I even tried getting a costume made professionally when I was in the fourth grade...a sore disaster. BUT I think a film, done right, would be incredible. I am a little hesitant about splitting the time frames though between WW2 and now. I think that was the major weakness (among MANY) of the 1990 film. I would much rather see a full on WW2 superhero film and end it with him being frozen. Save some for the sequel baby! Also, I enjoy the Ultimates Cap (more of a Black Ops/Delta Force type soldier) and think he would connect on the cool level better with audiences than boy scout Captain America.
As for who could play Cap, THAT is a tough question....lemme think about it some more....!

As james stated that this will be a NEW movie for Cap America. Good job, as I thought I was one of the few people on the earth to have seen the old captain america movie they made back in the day.

I'm all about fresh faces for comic book adaptations. I've always found it hard to see well known actor's fill the shoes of iconic superheros.

Oh God... Cap's my favorite hero ever, and I'm sooooo petrified that they're going to go with the horrible Ultimate Cap version... a complete thug, with no redeeming qualities at all. Hell, even the picture used for the above article is the Ultimate Cap! Sigh. It needs to be set completely in WW2, with both the origin of Cap and the Red Skull. Good vs. evil. The way it's always been.

I wonder if Marvel will be able to keep Steve Rogers in his grave until the movie comes out. I’m sure they will be bringing him back from the dead at some point, and tying it into the movie would be their big chance to rake in cash on the comic book side of the house. No superhero stays dead for long in comics. Some have died a few times.
