Hans Zimmer has confirmed to Hans-Zimmer.com that he will provide the score for DUNKIRK, the upcoming World War II movie from director Christopher Nolan. Zimmer has composed the music for almost every Nolan-directed film since BATMAN BEGINS, and collaborated with Junkie XL for the BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE score.

As we learned last month, Nolan's new movie will follow Operation Dynamo (also known as The Miracle of Dunkirk), the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the French seaport during the second World War after a large numbers of troops were cut off and surrounded by the German army during the Battle of France. Over the course of eight days, 338,226 soldiers were rescued by a fleet of more than 800 boats. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance will co-star in the film, with unknown actors taking the lead ensemble roles.

Production on DUNKIRK is expected to begin this May, and has been scheduled to hit theaters on July 21, 2017.
