The Winners of the 15th Annual Golden Schmoes!

02.26.2016

The results are in!

The Schmoes have spoken and the winners of the 2015 Golden Schmoes are here! Two films dominated the wins this year, toggling between MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Both films took the majority of wins, including Favorite Movie, Best Sci-Fi Movie, Special Effects, and more. Overall, it appears that you guys were all about the sci-fi entertainment this year (and I'm right there with ya).

Surprisingly, THE REVENANT, which is the big favorite for the Oscars, took only one award, although it went to the one person most seem to think deserves it - Leonardo DiCaprio. Best Actress went to Brie Larson for ROOM, which is a solid win for an excellent performance. EX MACHINA, another sci-fi favorite this year, took home a Best Supporting Actress win and a T&A win for Alicia Vikander. Both well-earned for a really cool flick. Sylvester Stallone took the Best Supporting Actor award for CREED, which seems to be the overall fan-favorite choice. CREED also took BIGGEST SURPRISE, which is also well-earned.

MOST WINS @ GOLDEN SCHMOES (All-Time):

1. The Dark Knight (2008) 12
2. Return of the King (2003) 10
3. Inception (2010) 9
4. The Two Towers (2002) 9
5. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) 9
6. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) 7
7. Sin City (2005) 7
8. Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 7
9. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) 6
10. Inglourious Basterds (2009) 6
11. The Departed (2006) 6
12. Pirates of the Caribbean (2003) 6
13. Memento (2001) 6
14. Drive (2011) 6

Females led the charge in terms of characters and performances this year with THE FORCE AWAKENS Daisy Ridley taking the Breakthrough Role award and Charlize Theron's Furiosa taking the Coolest Character award. THE HATEFUL EIGHT got some love with Best Screenplay, while the comic book adaptation sleeper KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE took home both Underrated Movie and Best Action Sequence for that badass church scene. Best Horror Movie went to IT FOLLOWS, while WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS took Best Comedy and INSIDE OUT took Best Animated Movie. Once again, Favorite Celebrity went to the lovely and goofy Jennifer Lawrence, continuing her hold on our hearts and minds.

Biggest Disappointment and Worst Movie of the Year went, unsurprisingly, to FANTASTIC FOUR, the Josh Trank directed superhero reboot that left folks fairly peeved at the final product. While it was a huge mover at the box office this year, folks seemed to feel that JURASSIC WORLD was the Most Overrated Movie of the Year.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the nomination phase and to all who voted in this year's awards! In the end, it's YOU GUYS who decide everything in the Golden Schmoes, from nominations to voting, so this is all about your perspective. Personally, I think you guys voted perfectly this year and can't dispute any of the wins. Let us know what you think of the results below (respectfully, please) and if you haven't done so already, be sure to enter our OSCAR PREDICTION CONTEST right HERE! Also, be sure join us for our Oscars Live Tweet and Live Blog/Chat this Sunday!

Best Horror

Have people not seen Krampus?! I heard that it kinda sucked and was reluctant to watch it... watched it anyway, just finished it, and man am I ever impressed! Gremlins, Trick 'R Treat, Cabin in the Woods, and Jeepers Creepers all rolled into one. A brilliant and haunting horror/comedy mash-up. How did it lose to It Follows (which had a terrible end)? Feels like the exact type of horror flick the readers here would be all over.

MAD MAX 4 defeated STAR WARS VII for Best Movie, but the latter defeated the former for Best Sci-Fi Movie?

About how I expected it. Haven't got to see quite a few films this year so felt like could only pick the ones I got a chance to see. Wish Sicario had won something... and I think Bone Tomahawk should have won most underrated film of the year. I just love me some movies!

People need to stop taking fake Awards so seriously

Seriously, calm down people. It's just an awards show?site?something? Who cares so much that you have to get all indignant that everyone must have crappy tastes just because they don't agree with yours?

Loved Mad Max. Deserves every kudo it gets. And It Follows is one the best horror films in the last 15 years. Just my opinion though! Easy fanboys...

Stop complaining, you were a part of it too. Yeah sure, some movies should have been on there, but the reason why they are not... is cause the majority of people liked these movies more. Quit whining.

Oh look, the movie that this site is always talking about won the most awards. I wonder why. Could it be because you keep mentioning it every chance you got?

Uh, you guys voted for it. Are you saying people can't think for themselves and vote for what they want?

If you promote something more than another, people will tend to go for the one promoted. It's the whole basic of advertising.

The last time we said anything about Mad Max (barely) was three weeks ago in a story about George Miller. Hardly mentioning it every chance we get.

You act as if we are on some kind of ad campaign to vote for the film or something. It's completely up to YOU. This is the whole reason we do the Golden Schmoes. To let our readers vote on what THEY feel is best, regardless of what any other awards show says. Are you implying that our audience is a bunch of sheep that can't choose for themselves

They know what they like. They voted. Perhaps you can offer up a better discussion on the topic rather than just accusing the site of somehow brainwashing people. I know it's a lot to ask.

@Maya. Did the Academy Awards nominate Mad Max because of Joblo?

You people have HORRIBLE taste in movies.

No wonder why Hollywood keeps putting remakes and stupid shit out. Mad Max was HORRIBLE. It was just fucking boring and lame. It Follows was the shittiest horror movie of the year. It was nothing but retarded hipster kids running from a poorly executed concept. You people deserve your Fantastic Fours and all female remakes.

It Follows was pretty crappy. A movie about a sexually transmitted demon.. STD. *rolls eyes* ... It should have been shown in Sex Ed in high school not released in theaters around the world.

Mad Max wasn't horrible, but I do agree that it wasn't the grandiose movie that this site make it out to be. Agree on It Follows. It was a passable horror movie with a crap ending.

It's fine if you don't agree with the winners, but saying everyone has horrible taste in movies is insulting the majority of people who voted (and silent majority who visit the site). If you can't comment respectfully, then save it. If you're confused about how that works, see the comment rules.

Should be able to have a write in option. It Follows was an ok movie, but I enjoyed Insidious Chapter 3 a lot more and am surprised it wasn't even nominated. And how Star Wars didn't win most overrated is beyond me.

The write-in option is during the nomination process. Completely dictated by you, the voters.

I would say I'm disappointed in the Joblo community but I knew this was coming. I already knew what to expect from reading a lot of nonsense comments last year. I knew FF4 would get worst movie even though it wasn't. I knew Mad Max would clean up across the board. A good movie.. but really, best music in a movie?? (And that one was the only one that shocked me and not in a good way.) This year was a lot of pop picks with no thought behind them.

*Yawn*

Just like every year, these results write themselves. I could've told you who was going to win every single category before the nominations were even announced. And don't even get me started on the fact that, in 2016, this website still has a category called Best T&A. Embarrassing.
