Five new clips and images from the upcoming Robocop remake show off some action

01.23.2014

The ROBOCOP remake is less than a month away and many have already made up their minds about whether or not they'll be seeing it. While some folks see a fun ride, others see a blasphemous remake. Today, we have some new clips that may sway you to one side or the other. See Samuel L. Jackson play a hyperbolic TV news show host, Michael Keaton as an ambitious and hot-headed idea man, and finally Joel Kinnaman as the titular hero facing off against two ED-209's in a fairly explosive throw down.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

I have to say, the ED-209 battle doesn't look bad at all and just seeing Michael Keaton get all riled up onscreen again always makes for a good time. Does that mean that this will be a success? Of course not, but it does paint a little more positive picture, even if slightly. In the end, those of us that grew up with the original are going to need some serious convincing, so this remake has got a lot of work to do on that front.

ROBOCOP opens on February 12, 2014.

I will probably get thumb downs to rival or perhaps even surpass Thesoloist BUT

90% of the complaints as to why this will be a bad movie are total shiteee!!
-The CG is too fake
-He has a human hand
-The black suit sucks

Give me a break. Those are not reasons why this movie will (or will not) suck. Those are simply reasons that a lot of people are making up in their minds to somehow justify the fact that they don't want this movie to succeed. This movie will probably suck (ala Total Recall remake), but I will hold out judgement until I see the movie.
If it ends up

If it ends up being an awesome action fest like Dredd, then I will be more than content. There is room for more than one type of Robocop movie. I don't need every movie to be a critique on whatever subject or theme the movie may be trying to get across. Why corner yourself into a set "type" of movie? Why does every Robocop movie have to hit the same "themes" and character beats as the original if its trying to BE something original?

Also, I only watched the ED209 fight and I must say, the CG isn't "weak" and it was pretty fkin awesome. However, that's only a 1 minute clip out of a 120 minute movie so Im not gonna say this movie rocks based on a 1 minute clip.

Let the downvotes Begin!

If it is trying to be something original, then give the title and characters new names. And I think other than the points you raised, there have been other valid points as to why people feel so negative about this movie.

That's why I didn't say every complaint people have made. Also making it a different title/franchise would come with the complaints that its a ROBOCOP ripoff.

look Evil Dead did it, Dredd did it, Dawn of the Dead did it etc etc and a lot of those movies got their assholes ripped open b4 fans even saw the movie.

And the fact that people feel so passionately against the remake shows how much of a success the original Robocop and Total Recall movies were.

Absolutely, but the fact that Total Recall sucked donkey balls doesn't detract from my enjoyment of Schwarzenegger

The first Dredd was no where near the comics and was a joke in the first place. The remake of the evil dead had Sam Raimi involved anyway and the new dawn of the dead was essentially the same film with updates to effects but the story was pretty much the same and was just your average zombie survival flick. I just feel that if you are going to remake a movie do it with films that were shite the first time round. The original Robocop was a masterpiece in story telling and a very intelligent

If I were a media studies teacher I would be using that film as part of my studies because it is on par with Shakespeare.

I completely agree with you man, but like I said. I haven't seen the movie and Jose Padhila has an excellent (albeit short) track record so far. I never judge a movie b4 I see the final product. Sorta like an innocent till proven guilty sorta thing. The fact that Raimi was involved in Evil dead tho isn't that great of a reason re: why evil dead was good. His horror production over the last decade has been shoddy at best.

Rise
The Messengers
The Grudge 2
Boogeyman
The Grudge

all

Logically you are right Con man on the judging a movie after coming out. People are just very passionate about this and the initial signs are not looking good ;)

Agreed, but everyone was proven wrong earlier this year with World War Z. Everyone expected it to be an unmitigated disaster and it turned out pretty good after all.

Just looks like a guy in the suit...

...that forgot the last piece. Seriously, that hand...gawd! At least put a glove on it or something. Wouldn't it be the first thing shot off by a sharp-shooting robot drone?

I can't believe how cold the previews are leaving me. Robocop should be ugly, he's a Frankenstein's monster!

Seems to lack the teeth of the original and it looks like pixel porn. Also, why use a taser? No thanks

I think this was a very good point made in an earlier posting by Captain Planet. This seems to be a general trend in movies these days. Over filled with VFX but generally movies with no soul. I don't know if it is because back in the day VFX needed a lot more put into it ,film makers were constantly pushing the envelope and essentially putting more 'MAGIC' into it. Unfortunately I feel that VFX is relied upon to heavily to make movies these days and the film industry is suffering for it. But

The irony is they tried to give him more of a personality in this one. But the old one has all the SOUL!

I don't see a fun ride OR a blasphemous remake, I see a pointless exploitative cash-grab.

And the silver suit looks WAY better than the black one.

Clip overload

Starting to feel like this is suffering from clip overload, leaving little in the way of surprises.

So he is not a robot, just has a robot body, ugh

I was waiting to hate on this movie til I saw it, and I was all for a worthwhile remake, the aesthetics are not so bad, I can get past the black suit (although silver is much better), but Robocop acting like a full person, calling himself Alex right off the bat, having lines like "I would put the guns down if I were you," this is not a robot, he is just a dude with robot parts, it takes away all that was Robocop's personality, which was a lack of personality that needed to be rediscovered. How

How this essential element of Robocop's essence could be missed, is beyond my comprehension.

Holy Shit! That CGI ED-209 battle looks far less convincing than the stop-motion original. This is just pixel porn. Verhoeven knew to push in on Robocop's busted helmet and see the eyes of the vulnerable man within. The original had soul. I don't know what the fuck this is - it's just noise.

Believe me, I'm VERY skeptical about this movie, but his trailer I came across makes me want to give it a shot. It's the best promotion I've seen for this so far:

I think they need a little more CGI

Looks fucking terrible...I'll rent it just to see Keaton and Oldman.

I like that last picture a lot which implies that the Tactical Black suit doesn't look so great. Still, I'm sure the movie will be popcorn fun.
