007: First Light sells 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours after release

The gaming community is feeling shaken and stirred by the arrival of IO Interactive‘s 007: First Light. This action-adventure video game tells the origin story of cinema’s most beloved superspy. According to reports, the new game sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling game in developer IO Interactive’s history and surpassing Hitman sales by a significant margin. To make the numbers look more impressive, the game has yet to reach the Nintendo Switch 2, so the 1.5 million copies sold do not include sales on one of the gaming industry’s premier consoles.

IO Interactive on First Light‘s success

“The milestone of 1.5 million units sold in 24 hours reflects overwhelming global enthusiasm for 007 First Light and represents a significant achievement for IO Interactive,” the developer said. “With an 88 OpenCritic rating and 87 Metacritic score, 007 First Light has been embraced by both critics and players alike, already establishing itself as one of 2026’s most successful gaming releases. The sales recorded across all platforms underscore the game’s broad appeal and the successful execution of IO Interactive’s vision to honor Bond’s legacy in gaming.”

In the days after the official launch of 007: First Light, the game received glowing scores from multiple outlets, earning an 87 on Metacritic. Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, said 007: First Light had sold an estimated 500,000 copies on Steam alone, banking roughly $25 million in revenue on Valve’s platform.

First Light is a smash on Steam

“The Steam performance really stood out for this one,” Elliott commented. “It’s the latest example of a traditionally ‘console’ game doing fantastic numbers on Steam.”

“For Amazon, which owns the Bond rights and licensed IOI to make this game, the early signs are bloody good,” he continued. “The franchise hasn’t had a quality adaptation in decades, and IOI has now delivered one that looks like a serious commercial proposition.”

Our 007: First Light review is on the way

While I’m still having a blast while playing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (read our review here), I’ll be getting my paws on a copy of 007: First Light later today, with a review to follow on JoBlo in the coming days. Yes, we’re a little late to the party, but the review code situation has been perplexing, to say the least. I’m looking forward to experiencing the game for myself. I hear it’s incredible.
