1-18-08=Alien?

I’ll keep this one brief, because I can already feel “1-18-08″/CLOVERFIELD/SLUSHO fatigue setting in around here.

But because I haven’t seen this anywhere else, I thought I’d throw another log on the fire of speculation with this tidbit I read in the NY Post.

Apparently, a small crew consisting of J.J. Abrams, director Matt Reeves and actors Blake Lively and Mike Vogel shot some footage in Coney Island a few weeks back. They shot several scenes at Deno’s Wonder Wheel, and one of the owners (who wanted to remain anonymous) had this to say about what was going down:

“It’s about an alien that wipes out all of New York City. The footage is taken the day before everyone dies. A bunch of kids come to Coney Island with a video camera. The movie is a flashback to that day.”

Now of course, it is so very, very possible that Abrams took this guy for a schmuck and just told him the first thing that popped into his head. Abrams is obviously fond of headgames and misdirection so it’s not unlikely. But what if someone – one of the actors, a crew member – casually said it – not thinking the veil of secrecy was going to be SO tight around this project? Just because it roars doesn’t mean this thing can’t be an outer-space monster (the likes of which we haven’t seen since the 50s). Who knows… Just thought I’d throw it out there, see who catches it and molests it a little. (wait what?!)
