16 new images from A&E’s Hitchcock-inspired series, Bates Motel with Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore

A&E is busy filming their new series, Bates Motel, which is an origin tale of the famous characters from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic, PSYCHO.  Based on the book by Robert Bloch, PSYCHO was a revolutionary thriller for that era and has long been a staple of Hitchcock’s reportoirre.  With the upcoming release of the HITCHCOCK biopic in January, it’s the perfect time to tap into the director’s lore with a show that highlights one of his most famous films.

Lost’s Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Light’s Kerry Ehrin are the producers of the show and say the series “will explore Norman’s relationship with his mother, Norma and offer a look at his backstory that helped forge the infamous serial killer.”  The show will star Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates, originally embodies with awesome creepiness by the late Anthony Perkins, and Vera Farmiga as Norma Louise Bates, who is “described as a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who is smart, multidimensional and always capable of surprising people.”

Other stars joining the show are Max Theiriot, Nestor Carbonell, Olivia Cooke, Mike Vogel, and Nicola Peltz.  “We think our take on the Bates family will both be surprising and subvert expectations.  We can’t wait for people to check in,” said Cuse about the show, which is set to premiere sometime in early 2013.
