1883 trailer rustles up plenty of action for the Yellowstone prequel series

Paramount+ has debuted an unbridled 1883 trailer that’s sure to leave Yellowstone stone fans itchin’ to set their peepers on Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming prequel series. Premiering December 19th on Paramount+, the original series stars Academy Award nominee legend Sam Elliott, Grammy Award Winner Tim McGraw, Grammy Award Winner Faith Hill, Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May, and LaMonica Garrett. Paramount Network will air a special simulcast premiere event for 1883 on Sunday, Dec. 19, following a new episode of Yellowstone.

1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.

Taylor Sheridan has previously teased that the prequel series will give fans a little insight into just how Kevin Costner’s character in the modern-day series has been able to amass so much land, but it will also dispel a few myths about the ol’ west. “The Westerns, in their heyday, followed a very simplistic storyline: You’ve got the white hat or the black hat — the good guy and the bad guy — and a lot of it was justifying their positions,” Sheridan explained. “What I try to do is paint a true reflection of a time and a place.“

The 1883 trailer looks to be paving a hard road for the Dutton family on their way across the plains. Did you see James Dutton’s face when he was confronted with varmints that were fixin’ to put some hurt on his family? They didn’t last long, and I’ve got a feeling that more bodies are going to hit the floor before this series is done.

Recently, the premiere for Yellowstone rustled up 8 million viewers, which is a 104% increase from the last season’s premiere episode and makes it the most-watched cable series broadcast since a 2018 episode of The Walking Dead. That’s mighty impressive and makes me curious about how many eyes will be on 1883 when it premieres on December 19, 2021.
