Fangoria has an in-depth report from the set of OFFSPRING, the adaptation of “outlaw” author Jack Ketchum’s horror novel of the same name (that’s Ketchum above, shooting a cameo). The book itself was a sequel to Ketchum’s first novel, OFF SEASON, which was notorious at the time of its release for its grisly violence. (Incidentally, I finished reading OFF SEASON a week or two ago, and it does indeed send a shiver or two down the spine.) Fango also scooped a few behind-the-scenes photos of bloody mayhem. Check it all out HERE.
The film begins in Dead River, Maine, where an evil thought to have been exterminated has returned with their insatiable appetite for human flesh. David and Amy Halbard’s family and their house guests are about to come face to face with a blood-thirsty pack of wild children lead by a woman, the last survivor of a primitive, cave-dwelling tribe of predatory savages. The only one who can possibly save them and put an end to the reign of terror is retired sheriff George Peters.
The film is being directed by Andrew van den Houten, producer of last year’s controversial (and similarly Ketchum-inspired) THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, with a screenplay by Ketchum himself. Among those in the cast are Art Hindle, Pollyanna McIntosh, Tommy Nelson, John Piedmonte, Holter Graham and Spencer List. Look for it to hit sometime in 2010.
