Every once in a while when we bust out an update from the dear old MPAA and the latest movies they’ve rated, we’re pleasantly surprised to report that all of the ratings (and the reasons for that rating) are either a surprise, or better yet, satisfactory to our need for unflinching horror violence. That is to say, we want movies that are R rated, and sometimes that happens, and sometimes we get PG-13. Well, today is one of those days.
We have two MPAA rating updates for two genre efforts and I’m glad to report that both of them are rated R. But which films and for why… let’s find out!
First up, the much delayed comic adaptation starring the lovely Kate Beckinsale,
WHITEOUT. This puppy was happily slapped with an R rating for violence, grisly images, brief strong language and some nudity. An R rated movie starring Beckinsale featuring ‘some nudity’? I’m so there! Sounds awesome to me, not to mention ‘grisly image.’ I d say the wait for WHITEOUT may actually be worth it…
The other, the remake of Wes Craven’s THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. If this scored a PG-13, we could automatically dismiss the remake as trash… but since it went with an R, maybe it’ll actually live up to its predecessor. This remake earned its R for sadistic brutal violence including a rape and disturbing images, language, nudity and some drug use.
Yup, sounds like it’s on par with the original! I would have been surprised if it earned anything less than an R, but then again, I could have said the same thing about PROM NIGHT, and look where that got us.
Two R rated genre efforts, two more reasons to hit up theaters next year. While HOUSE is still listed with a release date ‘to be decided,’
WHITEOUT is looking to hit theaters everywere September 11, 2009. Long wait… but could be totally worth. And it could change between now and then too… so stick around for more updates on both of these R rated flicks as we hear it!
