Our man Arrow broke the news a little while ago that Paul Andrew Williams was involved with the next 28 DAYS/WEEKS flick, presumably titled 28 MONTHS LATER. Sadly it’s looking like the project will not be going forward, at least not with Williams on board.
Fangoria caught up with producer Andrew Macdonald, who confirmed that while Williams was indeed involved with the flick, it is a marriage that wasn’t meant to last. “Paul was developing an idea, but it didn’t work out,” Macdonald tells us, “so he’s not directing it at present.”
What’s more, it turns out that this was not going to be a sequel but rather, a prequel to DAYS and WEEKS. Macdonald doesn’t go into any details, so there’s no telling how that would have worked (don’t we already know the origin story?).
So where does that leave the franchise? Don’t lose hope yet, my lovely infected: “We’re still looking at various concepts. Danny [Boyle, director of DAYS and a producer on WEEKS] has an idea which we’re exploring,” Macdonald continues. “It’s at a very early stage and the idea’s very loose, but it would be great to make a another film. I would love to make a trilogy.”
If it were up to me, they’d scratch the prequel idea and go full-on with 28 MONTHS. How cool would it be to see what the world – or at the very least, Europe – resembles after months of blood-spewing carnage? The answer is simple. F*CKING cool!
