Hogofilm seems to have a thing for sci-fi flicks. They’re just making it a fact by picking up DARK SWARM, a CG monster flick.
According to Hogofilm’s official website, the synopsis for DARK SWARM reads:
When the Earth is invaded by carnivores from space, the entire planet is covered in a matter of hours. The creatures swarm by the billions, blocking out the sun and eating everything in their path like piranha.
A handful of survivors takes shelter in a run-down farmhouse on a dying farm, trying in vain to barricade themselves against the onslaught. But as the crumbiling house continues to give way to the insatiable swarm, the humans realize no help is coming for them. And they begin to discover that there is more to the swarm than originally thought…
That sounds like all kinds of fun. They’ve recently announced the first three names to join the cast, all science fiction alumni. Christopher Judge (STARGATE SG-1), Erica Cerra (below) (EUREKA, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), and Ed Wasser (BABYLON 5) have all signed on for DARK SWARM.
According to the press release, Judge will play a father who only cares about protecting his daughter. Cerra will play a forest ranger who takes charge to help the group while dealing with some relationship troubles. And Wasser will play a mysterious stranger who may know a little more than most about the swarm.
The film is being directed by Tim Pyle, a man who’s no stranger to CG. He’s won awards for his talent and has worked on JIMMY NEUTRON, STARSHIP TROOPERS: THE SERIES, CHILDREN OF DUNE, and also directed Hogofilm’s DECAYING ORBIT.
DARK SWARM has already been nominated for two awards itself, at the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival it scored a Best Screenplay nomination and at the Terror Film Festival it’s up for Best Feature Screenplay. Good deal. Production starts this Summer for a 2009 release.
