3 new images from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire show off Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth

After THE HUNGER GAMES, star Jennifer Lawrence‘s stock took off, but it wasn’t until SILVER LINING’S PLAYBOOK that it really soared. So, now it will be interesting to see the actress carry the burden of topping or just “leveling off” a performance in the highly-anticipated sequel, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE. I’d love to see her really unleash in the sequel, but since I haven’t read past the first book (which was exceptionally underwhelming, in my opinion), I’m not sure if the material is there for her to do so.

The first teaser trailer for the film is set to debut during the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday (make sure to check back here for it as well) and in anticipation of it, the official Facebook page has released some new photos from the pic, which feature a stern-looking Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and a similarly stoic Gale Hawthorne (Hemsworth). I’m interested to see how director Francis Lawrence (I AM LEGEND) tackles the material, as I feel he’s a stronger choice than original helmer Gary Ross, especially in terms of the action/sci-fi elements. The teaser trailer will be most telling in that aspect.

Here’s the pics:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Here’s the official synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Clafin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, and Alan Ritchson, continues the love triangle of death marathon on November 22, 2013.
