I know you’re all aware that a prequel to Zack Snyder’s 300 has been in the works for a while now, right? Since I can remember the thing has been called XERXES and Snyder himself was planning to direct. Well it looks like neither of those things are happening but the flick is still getting made!
Not to long ago we told you how the movie was changing it’s title from XERXES to 300: BATTLE OF ARTIMESIA. I don’t know about you guys but I’m definitely digging that title more. That’s not all though, we also told you all how the director’s job was a toss up between UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra and relative unknown Noam Murro. Well ladies and gents according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog we have a winner!
It seems Noam Murro has won the coveted job and will be directing a script by Zack Snyder and his 300 partner Kurt Johnstad. One could assume Murro was chosen for this gig after Jaum Collet-Serra was announced as the director for the upcoming AKIRA adaptation, another Warner Bros. release. Hey it’s all good in my book, as long as 300: BATTLE OF ARTIMESIA rocks!
Artemisia is based on Frank Miller’s upcoming graphic novel that takes Xerxes, the Persian leader who is an antagonist in 300, and turns him into more of a pivotal figure. He’s a man in search of godhood after the death of his father, battling an Athenian warlord named Themistocles. The story takes place over the course of several years, but the focal point is the battle of Artemisium, which occured in 480 BC.
Nothing else regarding the project has been announced yet other than the fact that the plans are to shoot ARTIMESIA in the same stylized vein as Snyder did with 300. An official announcement pegging Murro as director is expected early next week.
